Panthers Come Home from Cumberland with Heavyweight Champ

LEBANON, Tenn
. - IN the final tune-up before the Great Midwest duals, the Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling continued its season on Saturday at the Cumberland Open. Kairus Washington completed a 5-0 day, winning the heavyweight division. 

Washington pinned his first two opponents to move forward into the championship rounds. In the quarterfinals he picked-up a 6-3 decision before defeating Hunter Hancock 4-0 to earn a trip to the finals. In the title match, Washington was in complete control, earning a 6-2 decision over Eric Conquest. 

LaMont Wilson pinned his first opponent before earning a 6-3 decision in the quarterfinals over Esau Bazline. Wilson suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat in the semifinals with his tournament ending in the consolation round after a 8-4 loss to Stephen Moreno of Life University. 

Andrew Parker won his opening match 5-2 over Michael Bush. Parker conduced his tournament in the consolation third round after tough and narrow 10-8 loss to Bryce Farmer from Life. Kohona Wilks concluded his open with a record of 1-2. 

The Panthers will travel to Tiffin, Ohio next week for the Great Midwest Conference Championship. Competition will begin on Friday and concluded on Saturday.
