Panthers Grind Out 10th Straight Win

OWENSBORO, Ky. – In their toughest test of the season thus far, the Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team edged Hillsdale College by a tally of 71-70 on Thursday night for their 10th straight win of the season and 14th win in 15 games.  The Panthers also extend their Great Midwest Athletic Conference streak, winning eight straight to move to 10-1 on the year.

Wesleyan led by five with just under eight minutes remaining before three consecutive three's gave Hillsdale a four-point lead with 6:25 remaining.  A pair of free throw's extended the Chargers' lead to six but that would be the last lead they held.

A 9-0 run over the next four minutes of action allowed the Panthers to regain a three point lead.  Kaylee Clifford and Keelie Lamb both notched a lay up.  Lamb knotted the game at 68 on a jumper in the paint and sunk the lay up to convert the three-point play and give Wesleyan a 69-68 lead with 1:25 remaining.

Kelsey Ivers went to the line with less than a minute on the clock after being fouled while grabbing a defensive rebound.  Ivers drained both shots to extend Wesleyan's lead to three.

The Chargers rushed down court and converted a lay up to pull within one with 41 seconds left.  The Panthers missed a lay up on their final possession, giving Hillsdale the ball back with 15 seconds on the clock.

Lily Grimes stopped the clock with a pair of fouls, leaving the Chargers nine seconds to steal the game.  With 1.9 seconds remaining, Keelie Lamb drew a charge in the lane to seal the win for Wesleyan.

Clifford led the Panthers with 17 points with Lamb right behind at 16.  Jenna Martin tabbed 14 points while Emma Johnson scored 11 off the bench.  Clifford and Lamb led the team with six rebounds a piece.  Lamb and Ivers dished out four assists while Clifford and Martin tabbed three steals each.

The Panthers shot 80.8% from the charity stripe, scoring 21 points off of free throws.  Wesleyan tabbed nine steals while forcing 15 Charger turnovers.

Wesleyan remains home this weekend, facing another tough G-MAC opponent in the Oilers of the University of Findlay.  Tip off is set for 12 pm CT on Saturday as the Panthers look to remain undefeated at home this season.
