OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team fell 3-1 to Great Midwest newcomer Tiffin University on Friday evening. The Panthers looked to gain momentum with an impressive third set, but the Dragons rebounded to close in four.
Sierra Morrow finished the match with 12 kills and a .391 attacking percentage.
The opening set proved to be the story of the match. The Dragons (9-3, 4-0 G-MAC) used a run in three of the four sets to gain separation and distance Wesleyan. In the opener, the Panthers (7-6, 2-3 G-MAC) led 7-6 before five straight points by the Dragons turned the tables. Wesleyan pulled within 19-16, but five more points by Tiffin allowed set point, 25-17.
The second was similar as the Panthers led 12-9 before a 6-0 rally by Tiffin forced the Panthers to play from behind again. The Dragons won the second frame 25-18.
The Panthers showcased their best offensive game of the night for the third set. Wesleyan held a .405 attacking percentage in the frame and rolled to 25-14 victory. The set featured a 7-0 run that built a 23-11 lead.
Nilah Roy produced two kills in the rally.
Another back-and-forth opening to the fourth set saw the Dragons edge ahead. After just taking the lead 12-10, Tiffin won 10 of the next 11 points to solidify a G-MAC road win, 25-14.
Danielle Brouillette added 11 kills to complement Morrow's 12. Bouillette also finished with an above par attacking percentage, .323. Roy added 10 kills while
Nicole Venema led defensively with 27 digs.
Lydia Jackson added 21 assists and 10 digs.
The Panthers will Cedarville University on Saturday. The match at Jones Gym is scheduled to start at 1 PM CT.
