Panthers Take Two from Pioneers

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team ended the regular season with an offensive explosion on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers defeated Malone 8-0 and 14-0 to solidify a spot in the Great Midwest Conference Tournament.
 
Game 1: Malone 0, Kentucky Wesleyan 8
Maci Brown pitched a complete game shutout at Foster Field while getting plenty of run support. The Panthers (25-24, 12-12 G-MAC) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning with Jamie Tempel's RBI single that slipped through the right side of the diamond.
 
10127Wesleyan added four more runs in the fourth, two coming on Tempel's two-run blast over the left field fence. Maddie Dawson completed the inning with a RBI double, giving the Panthers a 5-0 lead. After a quick top of the fifth from Brown, Wesleyan was back on offense. Jaylin Tidwell doubled in a run to start the frame while Delaney Mixer drove-in Tidwell with a single to right. The game ended on Meredith Daunhauer's RBI single into centerfield.
 
Brown completed five innings allowing three hits with eight strikeouts. Tempel finished the game two for three with a homerun, stolen base, and three RBIs.
 
Game 2: Malone 0, Kentucky Wesleyan 14
Evyn Hendrickson continued to hang zeros on the Foster Field scoreboard in the second game, pitching a complete game shutout. The Panthers put the pressure on early with a seven run first inning. Mixer and Tempel each clubbed a two run doubles in the frame while LexieKaitie Woodard each drove in another run.
 
Tidwell's doubled in the left-centerfield gap in the second inning scored a pair. Katie Woodard added another run in the frame with a single, extending the lead to 10-0. Caitlyn Lawson homered in the third while the Panthers added four more runs.
 
Hendrickson allowed three hits on the day with two strikeouts. Daunhauer finished the game three for four with a double and two RBIs. Mullen was also three for four with a RBI.
 
The Panthers will wait for the completion of Sunday's G-MAC games to discover their opponent in the Great Midwest Tournament.
