Panthers Walk-off with Sweep of Fighting Scots

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team completed the sweep of Ohio Valley University in dramatic fashion on Saturday at Foster Field. The Panthers were down to their last out before Ostin Clark provided the walk-off three-run double, giving Wesleyan a 5-4 victory.

After two scoreless innings, the Panthers (21-19, 11-9 G-MAC) got on the board first with Andrew Kirkland's RBI single into left field in the bottom of the third. Wesleyan added another run on Ben Wilcoxson's double to left-center in the fourth frame.

The Fighting Scots (18-23, 7-14 G-MAC) elevated Chris Johnson's pitch count early, but the Panthers' right-hander completed six innings of shut-out baseball. OVU cut its deficit in half in the seventh, scoring on an error.

The Scots managed to take the lead with a pair of run in the in the eighth and added another run in the top of the ninth, taking a 4-2 lead. The Panthers threatened in the bottom of the eighth, but could not execute. However, they were able to turn the line-up over for the ninth inning.

Wilcoxson walked to start the ninth while Cody Bridges was hit on the next pitch. Lane Kennemore was looking to sacrifice the runners into scoring position, but the Wiggins took too long, throwing the ball off the first base bag, allowing the Panthers to load the bases with no-outs.

Joseph Burke popped out while Kirkland hit a soft liner to short, getting the Panthers to their final out. On the second pitch, Clark lined a shot into the right-centerfield gap. The bases cleared to end the game as the relay home was not nearly in time.

Wilcoxson went two for two with two walks, a double, and RBI. Johnson allowed just four hits and navigated around round walks in his six innings of work. He also struck out six on the afternoon. Spencer Jackson earned the win.

The Panthers will host Southern Indiana on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch at Panther Park is scheduled for 3 PM CT.
