ODU Tops Wesleyan in G-MAC Clash

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two late inning rallies by Ohio Dominican University produced a Friday sweep of the Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team. ODU topped the Panthers in the opener 5-3 and completed the sweep 7-3 in the finale.

Game 1: Kentucky Wesleyan 3, ODU 5
Delaney Mixer started the scoring with a RBI single in the top second inning. The lead was short lived as a two-run homerun in the fourth gave ODU a 2-1. The Panthers (18-17, 6-8 G-MAC) bounced back in the top of the fifth as Lexie Mullen tied the game with RBI single to right. Wesleyan could not do anymore damage with two runners in scoring position to end the frame.

Maddie Dawson gave the Panthers a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth after a single through the left side of the diamond, scoring Meredith Daunhauer. However, ODU (24-15, 10-2 G-MAC) rallied in the bottom half, scratching-in three runs in the frame.

Mullen finished the game two for four with a double and RBI. Daunhauer was also two for four with a stolen base. Maci Brown picked-up a tough luck loss after pitching a complete game, allowing five runs, three earned on six hits with five strikeouts.

Game 2: Kentucky Wesleyan 3, ODU 7
The Panthers again got off to a fast start in the second game as Jamie Tempel pulled a homerun over the right field fence in the top of the third inning. Later in the frame, Dawson connected with an inside the park homerun to extend the Wesleyan lead to 2-0.

Ohio Dominican found an immediate answer in the bottom half. After an RBI single, ODU took the lead on a two-run homerun. They added four more runs in the sixth to build a 7-2 lead. Dawson helped the Panthers get one run closer in the seventh with a run scoring double, but the rally ended shortly thereafter.

Dawson finished the contest three for four with a double, homerun, and two RBIs. Tempel produced a three for three day with a homerun and RBI.

The Panthers will head down the road to play Cedarville on Saturday. First pitch has been moved up to 9 AM CT.
