HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team and defending Great Midwest Athletic Conference champions opened its 2018 slate on Thursday, dropping a pair of games at the Charger Chillout. The Panthers fell to host University of Alabama Huntsville 13-0 and University of North Alabama 9-0.
Game One: UAH 13 – KWC 0
The Chargers broke open the game in third inning with a three-run home run followed by a pair of RBI singles. UAH tabbed three hits and took advantage of one Panther error in the fourth to tally six more runs.
Meredith Daunhauer and
Andee Powell were the lone Panthers to tally hits in game one.
Maci Brown suffered her first loss of the season, throwing 3.0 innings and giving up five runs off of six hits.
Bailey Woodall made her collegiate debut with two innings of relief, allowing eight runs off of six hits.
Game Two: KWC 0 – UNA 9
Kentucky Wesleyan heated up with five hits in game two, but North Alabama scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back. The potent middle infield of
Jaylin Tidwell and
Lexie Mullen turned a pair of double plays, with both being inning ending double plays.
Mullen finished with a pair of hits in game two while Tidwell,
Maddie Dawson and
Jamie Tempel each tallied one.
Autumn Grady took her first loss of the season with a four-inning performance, allowing six runs off of seven this.
Evyn Hendrickson closed out the final 1.1 innings, giving up three runs off of three hits.
The Panthers close out the Charger Chillout on Friday, taking on McKendree University at 12 pm CT followed by Miles College at 4 pm CT.
