TIFFIN, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team rattled off their fourth straight win on Thursday night, defeating Great Midwest Athletic Conference newcomer Tiffin University in the first ever meeting between the two teams.
The Panthers found themselves in a 13-point deficit early in the second quarter before Kaylee Clifford, Keelie Lamb, Shayla Wright and Emma Wolfe combined for 11 points in three minutes to close the gap at five points.
Tiffin regained a nine-point lead with 2:52 left in the first half but Wesleyan stepped up on defense, holding the Dragons scoreless for nearly three minutes of play. The Panthers scored 12 unanswered points including five from Jenna Martin and four from Emma Johnson. Cali Nolot capped off the run with a three pointer to give Wesleyan a 34-31 lead at the break.
Midway through the third frame Martin and Clifford drained back-to-back three's to give Wesleyan their first double digit lead of the game. The Panthers outscored Tiffin 29-10 in the third to take a 63-41 lead entering the final quarter.
Wesleyan boasted a shooting percentage of 66.67% in the fourth, their best of any quarter. Johnson scored nine points in the final 10 minutes, shooting a perfect three-for-three from the field.
Johnson finished with a career high 21 points, shooting 7-11 along with three rebounds. Martin and Clifford also reached double figures, scoring 14 points each. Wolfe led the Panthers with nine rebounds, seven of which were defensive.
The Panthers head to Cedarville, Ohio on Saturday where they will take on the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville University.
