Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Panthers Stun League Leaders, 82-81

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Keelie Lamb drained a three point basket with nine seconds remaining to lift the Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team over Walsh University on Thursday and hand the Cavaliers their first Great Midwest Athletic Conference loss of the season.

With the win, Wesleyan picks up their fifth win of the season and third in conference play.  The redemption was sweet as Walsh was victorious in all three meetings last season.

The Panthers trailed the entire first half until Kaylee Clifford knocked down a three with 23 seconds remaining to give Wesleyan a 36-34 lead at the break.  The sophomore tabbed ten points in the first half alone while the Panthers shot 50% from the floor in the first half.

Walsh held a 13-point lead entering the final frame before the Panthers erupted for 33 points in the final ten minutes of action.  Kelsey Ivers cut the deficit to six with a fast break lay up at the 8:25 mark until the Cavaliers tabbed back-to-back lay ups to regain a double digit lead.

With 5:34 remaining, Walsh led by 11 before a balanced Panther attack trimmed the lead to one.  Lamb, Jenna Martin, Clifford and Shayla Wright combined for a 10-0 run over the next 2:30 to pull within one.

The two teams traded the lead six times in the final 2:11 with neither team able to pull ahead by more than two points.  Lamb put the nail in the coffin with nine seconds remaining, nailing a three from the corner on the assist from Martin.  With three seconds on the clock, Walsh inbounded the ball at midcourt but Lamb came up clutch again, forcing a turnover to seal the 82-81 win.

Clifford finished with a season-high of 20 points along with six rebounds and two assists.  Lamb tabbed 13 points with three assists and one steal.  Ivers also reached double figures, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.  Ivers, Martin and Kaylee Duncan led the team with four assists a piece while Duncan and Lead Richardson both recorded two blocks.

The Panthers remain home on Saturday to host Malone University in G-MAC action.  The Wesleyan basketball teams have teamed up to host a Toy Drive on Saturday.  Fans who bring any new, unwrapped toy on Saturday will receive one coupon that can be redeemed for a general admission ticket to any remaining 2018-19 Kentucky Wesleyan basketball game.  The toys will be donated to Toys for Tots.
