VIENNA, WV. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's basketball team erased an 11 point second half deficit on Saturday afternoon only to fall to Ohio Valley University. OVU caught a break in the final seconds to escape with an 86-84 Great Midwest victory.
The Panthers (10-8, 4-4 G-MAC) trailed 74-63 with 10 minutes to go in the game.
Amir Warnock started a 12-0 rally with a back-to-back jumpers. He later capped-off the run with another jumper, scoring half the points in the run. Christian Alley stopped Wesleyan's momentum with back-to-back jumpers of his own, giving the Fighting Scots (2-11, 1-6 G-MAC) a 78-75 lead.
Alley gave OVU a five-point lead with two minutes remaining when
Malek Harris converted a pair of free throws. A jumper by
Daniel Dzierzawski followed later with two foul-shots tied the game at 84-84 with 39 seconds left on the clock.
Aleksandar Djordjevi became the hero as his jumper with 17 second left gave the Fighting Scots a two-point edge. Dzierzawski drove the lane on the final possession, drawing a foul. After missing the first, the Panthers were forced to miss the second from the charity stripe with just four seconds left. Parker Black grabbed the rebound and ended the game.
It was a tie ballgame after the first 20 minutes as both teams tallied 41 points. The Panthers shot 51% in the first half and 48% for the game. Harris scored 10 of his 15 points in the final period of play. He also grabbed six rebounds. Dzierzawski finished with 20 points and six assists on the night.
Warnock added 10 points and five rebounds before fouling out of the contest.
Dakota Quinn recorded 10 points and six rebounds.
The Panthers will travel to Nashville on Monday to play Trevecca Nazarene. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 PM CT.
