Volleyball Pulls G-MAC Upset at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team posted a 3-1 win over Cedarville University on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Yellow Jackets 25-16, 25-20, 24-26 and 25-22 for a crucial win in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.  After a pair of road wins this weekend, the Panthers improve to 7-11 overall and 3-4 in the conference while the Yellow Jackets fall to 7-10 overall and 5-2 in the G-MAC.

Kentucky Wesleyan tabbed 53 kills on the match with three Panthers reaching double digits.  Danielle Brouillette recorded 11 while Nilah Roy and Jaylen McEwen each had 10.  The Panthers tallied 12 blocks with Sierra Morrow leading the way with eight.

In the first set Kentucky Wesleyan pulled away with a six point run to take a 13-7 lead with a pair of kills from Brouillette and one from Julia MoranCourtney Gildea also tabbed a service ace during the run.  The Panthers controlled the second half of the set with the Yellow Jackets unable to pull within five points.  The Panthers closed out the set with four of the final five points, all of which were kills.  Gabrielle Gallois and Brouillette tallied one a piece while Roy recorded two.

The Yellow Jackets held a 6-5 lead in the second set until Kemtucky Wesleyan stormed back with five straight points to take a 10-6 lead.  Another four point surge put the Panthers ahead 17-14 after three straight kills.  With the set tied 20-20, Cedarville made five straight errors to allow the Panthers to take set two 25-20.

During the third set Cedarville held a 8-3 lead but Kentucky Wesleyan utilized a 8-1 run to take a two-point lead.  Nicole Venema served up two service aces during the run.  Cedarville went on a 6-1 run to take a 19-18 lead and ultimately took the set 26-24.

Cedarville took a four-point lead to start the fourth set but the Panthers rallied for eight unanswered points to take a 14-10 lead.  Audrey Baysinger and Brouillette each tallied kills during the run.  The Yellow Jackets pulled within two at 23-21 but a pair of kills from Brouillette closed out the set and the match.

The Panthers have arguably their toughest week ahead of them with three straight conference road games.  Kentucky Wesleyan will head to Davis & Elkins on Thursday, Ohio Valley on Friday and close out the trip at Alderson Broaddus on Saturday.
