OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team suffered a three-set loss to Hillsdale College on Friday night in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup. The Panthers fall to 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the conference while the Chargers improve to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in G-MAC play.
Hillsdale took the first set 25-11 and jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the second set. Kentucky Wesleyan regrouped with a timeout and pulled within two after four straight points including a pair of service aces from
Nilah Roy.
A tightly contested set saw the Chargers ahead at 20-18 until the Panthers tied it at 21 thanks to kills from Roy and
Sierra Morrow. Hillsdale took four of the next five points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Kentucky Wesleyan took control in the third set, taking an early three point lead after kills from
Autumn Harris,
Julia Moran and Danille Brouillette. The Chargers tied the game at five then back-and-forth play kept the game tied until Hillsdale took a 10-8 lead.
Midway through the set the Chargers held a 18-12 lead that was cut down to two points after a pair of kills from Morrow and a pair of service aces from
Lydia Jackson. The Chargers responded by taking seven of the next eight points to take the final set 25-17 and sweep the match.
Morrow led the Panthers with eight kills while Brouillette and Moran tabbed six and four respectively. Roy, Brouillette and Jackson each tallied a pair of service aces while Roy and Brouillette each had two block.
Kylie Foster led the offense with 11 assists while
Nicole Venema led the defense with 12 digs.
Kentucky Wesleyan will face Findlay University on Saturday, Sept. 23 with first serve set for 1 pm CT at the Jones Gymnasium in Owensboro, Ky.
