Verst Blanks Virginia-Wise, 11-0; Panthers Win Third Straight

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – After sweeping Wheeling Jesuit in a pair of game on Tuesday, the Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team was back in action on Wednesday.  Behind a dominant performance on the mound from Nate Verst, the Panthers shut out Virginia-Wise, 11-0.  With the three wins in two wins, Kentucky Wesleyan improves to 5-7 on the season, winning four of their past five games.

In his second win of the season, Verst didn't allow a base runner until the third inning and didn't surrender a hit until the fifth.  The junior struck out six and didn't give up any walks while holding Virginia-Wise to just two hits and holding the Cavaliers scoreless.

Kentucky Wesleyan didn't waste any time getting on the board, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning.  Jacob Snodgrass took advantage of two errors from Virginia-Wise to reach third, and scored on a single from Josh Galvan.

With two outs in the fourth, Levi Tanner singled and stole second.  Seth Campbell brought Tanner home with a single to right field.

The Panthers knocked six hits in the sixth inning to score six runs, all with two outs.  Nathan Stemle ripped a double, and scored on a triple from Snodgrass.  Four singles from Brown, Tyler Walsh, Andrew Kirkland and Campbell, drove in the final four runs for the Kentucky Wesleyan to give them a striking 11-0 win.

Stemle, Brown, Kirkland and Campbell each tabbed two hits with Campbell leading the team with three runs driven in followed by Walsh with two.  Stemle, Snodgrass and Brown each scored twice with Galvan, Walsh, Kirkland and Tanner crossing the plate once.
