OWENSBORO, Ky. – The nationally ranked No. 15 Kentucky Wesleyan College men's basketball team posted a convincing 49-point victory on Saturday over Oakland City University in a non-conference game for their 20th win on the season and 18th straight. This marks the sixth straight season the Panthers have reached 20 wins, and the fourth under Head Coach
Happy Osborne. Kentucky Wesleyan also protected its home winning streak, earning their 43rd straight victory at the Owensboro Sportscenter.
Kentucky Wesleyan improves to 20-2 on the season while the Mighty Oaks drop to 14-5.
Three Panthers scored in double digits in the first half alone in
Sam Williams,
Ken-Jah Bosley and
Malek Harris. The Panthers were unstoppable in the first frame, shooting 76.5% from field goal range while holding the Mighty Oaks to 36.4%. Oakland City took a three-point lead at the 16:45 mark, but that would be their largest, and last, lead of the game.
Brandon Hatton drained a three pointer midway through the half to put Kentucky Wesleyan up by double digits. Moments later,
Shaakir Lindsey intercepted a pass and found
Ken-Jah Bosley under the net for the fast-break lay up. Kentucky Wesleyan closed out the first half with a 30-10 run to take a 64-33 lead to the break.
Jordan Jacks opened the second half scoring eight of the teams 10 points. At the 8:53 mark, Jacks connected with
Michael Vigilance to put the Panthers at 101 points, the sixth time they've reached the century mark this season.
Less than four minutes later, Williams grabbed a defensive rebound and raced down the court to score a lay up and give the Panthers a 113-57 lead, their largest of the game at 56 points.
The Panthers scored 26 points off of 11 turnovers, and outrebounded the Mighty Oaks 51 to 19. Kentucky Wesleyan scored 26 fast break points, and 68 points in the paint.
Williams led all scorers with 23 points and six assists while grabbing 10 rebounds and tallying one block and one steal. Bosley finished with 18 points and four assists while Harris and
Brandon Hatton each scored 12. Jacks tabbed 13 points and three rebounds. Vigilance led all players with 14 rebounds while recording eight points.
Kentucky Wesleyan will travel to West Virginia for a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference games next week. The Panthers will take on Alderson Boraddus at 6:30 pm CT on Thursday, followed by Davis & Elkins at 3 pm CT on Saturday.
