WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Behind a stellar performance on the mound from Ryan Hundley, the Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team shutout Tiffin 6-0 on Sunday afternoon in Winter Haven, Fla. to start its 2017 spring break trip. With the victory, the Panthers improve to 2-6 on the season with five games this upcoming week.
After a scoreless first inning, Snodgrass led off the bottom of the second with a solo shot for his first home run of the season. It was déjà vu for the Panthers in the bottom of the third as Josh Galvan led off with a home run, also his first of the season.
Seth Campbell led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and stole second to get into scoring position with no outs. Campbell advanced to third on a ground out from Levi Tanner, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Cody Bridges to put Kentucky Wesleyan ahead 3-0 after four innings.
The Panthers tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, back-to-back singles from Joseph Burke and Andrew Kirkland put runners on the corners. Campbell drove in Burke with a single to increase the lead to four runs.
In the bottom of the seventh, Kentucky Wesleyan utilized a Tiffin error to score its final two runs. With two outs and runners on the corners, Nathan Stemle reached on a throwing error by the catcher, bringing home both runners.
Ryan Hundley dominated in his first win of the season, facing the minimum in three innings of seven pitched. He struck out eight and didn't allow any walks while giving up five hits and holding the Dragons scoreless. In one inning of relief Nate Verst struck out one and didn't allow any hits. Ryan Bailey closed out the final inning, striking out two.
Campbell and Galvan each recorded two hits while Snodgrass, Stemle, Kirkland, Tanner and Burke tabbed one. Snodgrass, Campbell, Galvan and Bridges drove in one each while Snodgrass, Kirkland, Campbell, Tanner, Galvan and Burke scored one run a piece.
The Panthers will be back in action on Monday with a single game against Gannon.
