Brown Homers; Panthers Edged by Tiffin, 6-4

MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team chipped away at a 5-0 deficit to get within one run in the seventh inning, but the comeback fell short as the Panthers dropped a 6-4 decision to Tiffin University Friday afternoon at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn.

Cold bats proved costly for Kentucky Wesleyan as they tabbed four hits in the first five innings of play and found themselves down 5-0.  With one out in the sixth inning, Josh Galvan knocked a triple to center field.  Adam Brown smacked his first run home of the season to drive in Galvan and get the Panthers on the board.

Brown was the spark they needed as Kentucky Wesleyan went on to tally another pair of runs in the seventh to make it a one run ball game.  Kiah Gledhill led the inning off with a single up the middle and advanced to second as Levi Tanner reached on a throwing error.  A ground out put both runners in scoring position with two outs.  Nathan Stemle drove in both runners with a single to center field to make the score 5-4.

Tiffin tacked on one more run in the bottom of the seventh to add to their lead.  In the top of the eighth, Brown threatened to score, reaching third with one out but was able to cross the plate.

Brown and Gledhill each finished two-for-four at the plate with Brown tabbing two runs batted in.  Stemle, Galvan, Tanner, Jacob Snodgrass and Joseph Burke recorded one hit a piece.

Zach Burton suffered his second loss of the season, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing 10 hits.  In a relief appearance, reigning G-MAC Pitcher of the Week Nate Verset struck out two in 1.2 innings pitched.  Aaron Hendrickson allowed one run and two walks in 0.1 innings.  Ryan Bailey tossed 1.1 innings, allowing one hit.  Heath Brownley struck out the one batter he faced in the eighth inning.

The Panthers will be back in action again on Saturday as they take on Quincy in a doubleheader slated to start at 12 pm.
