PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team closed out the calendar year with a 96-74 loss to Ursuline College on Saturday afternoon. Lily Grimes, Emma Wolfe, Jenna Martin and Kelsey Ivers all reached double figures in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest.
The Panthers move to 6-5 on the season and 2-5 in conference play while the Arrows improve to 9-3 overall and remain unbeaten in the G-MAC at 6-0.
Ursuline built-up a 14-point lead in the first frame, but a fast break lay up from Keelie Lamb in the closing seconds cut the deficit to nine. A strong Arrows defense held the Panthers to nine points in the second quarter to take a 48-22 lead to the break.
Kentucky Wesleyan found its rhythm in the second half, shooting 47.2 percent from the floor. Grimes, Ivers and Wolfe each scored at least 10 points in the second half alone. The Panthers put together a 20-6 run in the final six minutes, but the late rally was not enough.
Grimes posted a career-high 17 points along with two assists and two steals. Ivers also tallied a career-high in points at 13. Wolfe scored 13 as well while dishing out three assists and two steals. Martin tallied 11 points and three assists. Lamb led the Panthers with six rebounds.
The Panthers return home to open the new calendar year with a pair of conference games. Kentucky Wesleyan hosts G-MAC newcomer Walsh at 5:30 pm CT on Thursday followed by Malone at 1 pm CT on Saturday.
