OWENSBORO, Ky. – A second half surge propelled the Kentucky Wesleyan College men's basketball team to a 95-79 victory over Lake Erie College on Tuesday afternoon. Five players reached double-figures at the Sportscenter while the Panthers picked-up their fifth win in a row.
Daniel Dzierzawski helped the Panthers (8-5, 4-1 G-MAC) pick-up the pace in the first half. Wesleyan trailed at the start, but took a 14-13 lead after
Evan Milligan's offensive rebound and put-back. Dzierzawski was able to get to the rim and show-off his range on the way to 17 points in the opening 20 minutes.
After holding a 45-42 lead at the break Milligan featured a productive opening two minutes of the second half. Back-to-back steals by Milligan resulted in a dunk and three-point basket which forced the Storm (8-4, 3-1 G-MAC) to call timeout. Milligan was not finished as he blocked Jordan Humphrey's lay-up on the following possession and buried another three-point basket to give Wesleyan a 53-42 lead. The run ended at nine straight points after a made free-throw by
Rasheide Bell.
The Panthers' lead dwindled to 56-52 with 15 minutes left in the game. However, five minutes later Wesleyan was back on top by 17 (71-54) after
Dakota Quinn's steal and thunderous fast-break dunk. The Panthers' lead remained in double-figures for the duration as Quinn and Milligan each produced career highs.
Dzierzawski finished with another career-high on the afternoon as he scored 24 points. He also dished out nine assists on the day. Millgan led all scores with 25 points as he also collected a team-high nine rebounds. Quinn added 16 points, three steals, and two more blocks. Quinn has seven recorded blocked shots in the last two games.
Malek Harris added 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists in the Great Midwest victory. Bell recorded 11 points and four assists. The Panthers converted at 62% from the field on the night, making half of their three-point attempts.
Wesleyan will return to action on December 30
th against Mars Hill. Tip-off at the Sportscenter is scheduled for 2 PM CT.
