HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team saw its 2017 season come to close on Thursday afternoon, suffering a 3-0 loss to Lake Erie College in the first round of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship tournament.
The Panthers finish the season at 14-19 overall and one game over .500 in conference play at 9-8.
Two of the first three points for Kentucky Wesleyan came from kills by Nilah Roy. Neither team was able to gain more than a three point lead until the Storm tallied four straight points to take a 20-15 lead. A kill from Danielle Brouillette stopped the Storm's momentum but Lake Erie responded with another four straight points to take the first set 25-17.
The Storm strung together another four points to open the second set. Brouillette, Mackenzie Harness, and Roy each tallied a kill in the 25-7 second set loss.
Kentucky Wesleyan led the third set 6-5 after recording five kills with Sierra Morrow contributing two. Lake Erie regained the lead after three straight points and went on to take the set 25-16. The Panthers recorded their best hitting percentage of the match in the final set, boasting a .235 hitting percentage.
Roy led the Panthers with seven kills followed by Brouillette with five. Morrow, Brouillette and Roy each recorded three blocks. Hannah Pierce led the defense with 13 digs.
