Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College opened its 2017-18 season with an exhibition loss, falling 101-64 to the University of Louisville Cardinals at the KFC Yum! Center in downtown Louisville on Monday evening.
The Panthers got on the board first, with a layup from
Rasheide Bell on the team's first possession 22 seconds into the game. A tightly contested first few minutes kept the Panthers within five but the Cardinals pulled away and took a 54-35 to the break.
The second half started with a 10-0 run from Louisville to take a 64-35 lead. The Cardinals utilized their size to outscore the Panthers 47-29 in the second half, including 62 points in the paint.
Dakota Quinn, Rashiede Bell and
Bird Cardwell each reached double-digit figures with Quinn leading the way with 14 points. Bell tallied 12 and Cardwell recorded 11. Quinn also led the Panthers with eight rebounds including seven defensive while tallying three blocks and a pair of steals.
Daniel Dzierzawski dished out four assists followed by
Chandler Redix with three.
The Panthers shot 42.6% from the field but was 11-for-13 from the charity stripe. Kentucky Wesleyan tallied 44 points in the paint and tabbed 13 second chance points.
Kentucky Wesleyan heads to the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind. this upcoming weekend to compete in the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic. The Panthers will take on Montevallo at 8:30 pm CT on Friday night then a marquee matchup against the University of Southern Indiana set for 6 pm CT on Saturday.
