VIENNA, W. Va. – Kentucky Wesleyan College's men's basketball team opened play in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference with a convincing 104-63 win over Ohio Valley University on Thursday night. This marks the ninth straight win for Kentucky Wesleyan and the fourth time they've reached the century mark this season. Five Panthers scored in the double digits as they improved to 11-2 overall and 1-0 in the G-MAC. The Scots remain winless on the season at 0-10 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Ken-Jah Bosley continues to make his mark in the record books, taking second in career free throws with 514. He still sits in fourth all-time with 184 three-pointers, and seventh in career points with 1,810 and is 17 points shy of sixth place.
The Panthers boasted a shooting percentage of 60.6% in the first half to Ohio Valley's 23.5%. The Scots scored a three-pointer on their first possession of the game, the only time they would lead. The Panthers jumped out to a 14-5 lead less than four minutes into the game as
Sam Williams and
Malek Harris each contributed four points.
Dominant defense from Kentucky Wesleyan would hold the Scots scoreless for over seven minutes of play. The Panthers closed out the final eight minutes of the half with a 25-6 run to take a 59-23 lead to the half.
The Panthers kept on rolling in the second half, with their largest lead coming at the 10:00 mark. Bosley sunk a three-pointer to give Kentucky Wesleyan a 43-point lead, 86 to 43. Ohio Valley scored 10 points off of nine Wesleyan turnovers in the second half, but the damage was already done as the Panthers cruised to victory.
Kentucky Wesleyan scored 15 second chance points and 46 points came from the bench. The Panthers outscored the Scots in the paint, 20 to 2, and also held the advantage in fast break points, 8-0.
Jordan Jacks led the offense with 16 points and two steals followed by Bosley with 15 points including seven free throws. Williams tallied 14 points and five rebounds while Shaakir Lindsay and
Brandon Hatton each contributed 10 points.
Adam Stanford led the Panthers with six rebounds, five of which were defensive.
The Panthers will head to Cedarville, Ohio this weekend to take on the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville at 3:15 pm CT on Saturday.
