Kentucky Wesleyan won their fourth straight match after fighting off Malone in five sets on Friday evening in Canton, Ohio in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The final score of the match was (25-22, 25-23,14-25, 22-25,15-6). Kentucky Wesleyan improves on the year to 6-5 (1-0 G-MAC).
The first set of the match was back and forth with the Panthers leading early on. Malone re-took the lead at 20-17 after winning four straight points. The Panthers re-grouped and took a 23-22 advantage, before winning the final two points of the set.
Kentucky Wesleyan rallied in the second set after trailing 18-12 to win the set 25-23. Sierra Morrow won two points off service aces late in the set, including on set point. KWC won the final three points in the set.
The Panthers got off to another slow start in the third set and were unable to rally this time. Malone took advantage of a few Panther miscues too and held on to win the set 25-14.
KWC had an opportunity to win the match in four sets, with the game score tied at 14 apiece. The Pioneers would win eleven of the next sixteen points to take a 23-19 lead, before ultimately forcing a fifth and final set.
In the final set, Kentucky Wesleyan turned things around with ease and jumped out to a 9-3 lead. The Panthers continued to take charge up front at the net, as Elizabeth Gober produced a kill on match point to preserve the win.
Audrey Baysinger led the Panthers' attack with 15 kills in the contest. Elizabeth Gober also registered 11 kills, while Gabrielle Gallois notched 10. Kylie Foster recorded a team-high 27 assists, and Courtney Gildea also generated 10.
Nicole Venema led KWC once again with a team-high 24 digs. Gober tallied a season-high three service aces, while Sierra Morrow collected two. Morrow also finished with two solo blocks and three block assists.
The Panthers are back in action tomorrow at noon, when they travel to Pepper Pike, Ohio for another G-MAC contest against Ursuline.
