Volleyball loses twice at UAH Classic

The Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team fell twice in their first two matches of the season at the Huntsville Marriott UAH Classic in Huntsville, Ala. to Spring Hill and Ouachita Baptist on Friday. Both matches ended in four sets. Kentucky Wesleyan will play their final match of the Classic tomorrow at noon CT against the host Alabama-Huntsville.

Spring Hill match
The Panthers started off hot with a decisive first set victory, but dropped the next three consecutive sets. The final score in the match was (25-20, 22-25, 17-25, and 16-25). In the third and fourth sets, Spring Hill turned the jets on, and Kentucky Wesleyan was unable to answer to the Badgers' momentum.

Autumn Harris started the season off on the right note with a team-high 12 kills in the contest. She also recorded three digs and three assists. Nicole Venema posted 16 digs and a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage in the match.

Courtney Gildea led KWC with 16 assists. Kaitlyn Groce also collected 12 assists throughout the match. Groce and Sierra Morrow each finished with two service aces. Elizabeth Gober produced seven kills and five digs. Audrey Baysinger and Mallory Sacre both notched two block assists apiece.
Kentucky Wesleyan as a team collected three blocks, 48 digs, and 41 kills.

Ouachita Baptist match
KWC once again got things going their way with a dominating first set win by a score of 25-17. However, the Panthers yet again were unable to take advantage of their early one set lead, and lost the next three sets all by the same score of 25-14.

Nicole Venema tallied 12 digs, while Emily Yocom collected 11. Kaitlyn Groce recorded a team-high 13 assists, and Courtney Gildea registered 11. Both Groce and Gildea posted double figures in assists in each match today.

Audrey Baysinger smashed 10 kills, leading the Panthers' attack up front. She also finished with four digs, and a team-high three block assists. Gabrielle Gallois added seven kills.
