Volleyball begins season Friday at Huntsville Marriott UAH Classic

The Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team will begin their season this Friday at noon CT against Spring Hill in Huntsville, Ala. for the Huntsville Marriot classic on the campus of Alabama-Huntsville.  Kentucky Wesleyan's next opponent is Ouachita Baptist, who they will take on at 4 pm that afternoon. The final match of the classic will take place Saturday afternoon against host Alabama-Huntsville at 1 pm.

The Panthers will look to start the 2016 season off on a better note, after ending last season with a final record of 9-20 (3-7 G-MAC). KWC added several new incoming freshman, and only lost two players to graduation last year.

Head coach Eric Hagan discussed the team's upcoming year and expectations. "We're looking to stay healthy, and looking to see if that fire is still present. We have a sour taste in our mouth still from our conference tournament loss to Trevecca. If we can stay consistent throughout the year, I really like our team and what we can do.

Our ultimate goal is to win the conference championship, and get a bid to the NCAA tournament. It has been a focal point for us throughout the off-season and the summer."

Hagan also mentioned what the biggest key for improvement will need to be this year. "Blocking is going to be huge for us, and it's something that we struggled with last season. We just need to find ways to stay consistent."

Kentucky Wesleyan's first home game of the year will take place on Sep. 9 against Oakland City at the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational.
