Baseball drops first game at G-MAC tourney to Alderson Broaddus 6-4

Kentucky Wesleyan fell to Alderson Broaddus 6-4 in the second round of the winner's bracket of the G-MAC Championship on Thursday morning in Mason, Ohio. The Panthers fall to (35-16) on the year, and will now have to will their way out of the loser's bracket to win the conference tournament.

KWC got the first run of the game in the top of the first, off of a Jacob Snodgrass single through the right side, which scored Cody Bridges.

AB would answer back in the bottom half of the third. The Battlers scored two runs on a ground-rule two-RBI double to give Alderson Broaddus the 2-1 lead.

It was a 2-1 game in the fourth, until Alderson Broaddus scored three runs with two outs on a double, which extended Alderson Broaddus' lead out to 5-1.

In the fifth inning, Nathan Stemle hit an infield ground ball, and Seth Campbell scored from second off of a throwing error to cut the deficit down to 5-2. Alderson Broaddus however, scored another run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 6-2.

KWC was able to close the gap in the bottom of the sixth, when Andrew Kirkland scored off of a wild pitch, and Seth Campbell produced an RBI single scoring Tyler Shewmaker to make it just a 6-4 game.  

In the eighth, Kentucky Wesleyan had an opportunity to make things even more interesting. Adam Brown got on base by drawing a walk. He then advanced to second off a wild pitch to get in scoring position with nobody out.

Kirkland and Shewmaker went down on strikes, and Jeremy Cline flied out to center to end the inning.

In the Panthers' final inning, they stranded two more runners on base.

With one out in the ninth, Cody Bridges and Stemle both hit singles to get on base and kept KWC alive. Troy Paris and Jacob Snodgrass both flied out to center and right field to end the game. The Panthers stranded nine runners on base throughout the contest.

Zach Burton threw the first 3.2 innings of play. Burton gave up five earned runs. Andrew Moralez was the relief pitcher for the final 4.1 innings of play. Moralez only gave up one earned run in his outing, and struck out three batters.

Bridges, Stemle, and Campbell each finished with two hits apiece in the contest. As a team, KWC collected 10 hits.

Kentucky Wesleyan will play tomorrow afternoon at 2:15 CT with a re-match against Ohio Valley. The Panthers defeated OVU yesterday in the first round 5-2.
