Softball sweeps series against Ohio Valley, improve to 8-2 in G-MAC play

The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team recorded two more wins on Sunday against Ohio Valley at Foster Field. KWC took game one 12-4 (F/6) and game two 1-0. KWC is now 7-1 in home games this season.

Kentucky Wesleyan won all four games this weekend to sweep the series against the Fighting Scots. The Panthers have also won seven straight games, including ten wins in their last eleven games altogether. The Panthers record on the season also improves to (13-17, 8-2 G-MAC) on the year.

In game one, Kentucky Wesleyan's bats came alive on offense. The Panthers totaled 16 hits in the contest and produced eleven RBI's as a team.

Ohio Valley's only lead of the day came in the first game, as they scored two runs in the top of the third to hold a 2-1 advantage. The Panthers evened scored back up in the bottom half of the inning.

In the fourth, KWC began to open the lead with three runs. OVU made it tough on the Panthers though, and reduced the lead down to 5-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

KWC's offense was on fire in the sixth, and the Panthers scored seven runs in the inning to end the game due to the eight run rule.

Mackenzie Weedman finished the game with five hits, three runs scored, and two RBI's. Weedman also registered a double and a triple.

Alexis Chapman's three run homerun in the sixth opened the advantage to 11-4. It was Chapman's only hit of the game, but it couldn't have been more well-timed.

Courtney Lockwood collected three hits and two RBI's. Samantha Marksbury also ended up with two hits in the game and two RBI's. Both Lockwood and Marksbury each tallied a double in the game.

Casey Smith went all six innings, to win her second game of the weekend. Smith also recorded a save on Saturday.

In game two, neither team was able to get anything going offensively. While the Panthers finished with ten hits as a team, they left eight runners on base throughout the game. Ohio Valley only produced five hits in the contest, but they also left eight runners on base.

Mackenzie Weedman hit the game winning single in the bottom of the seventh to give the Panthers a 1-0 victory and a series sweep. Weedman finished game two going 3-4 and an RBI. In both games total, Weedman collected eight hits in nine at bats.

Meredith Daunhauer recorded two hits in game two. Mallroy Nease, Kayla Norris, Delaney Mixer, and Alexis Chapman each came away with one hit apiece.

Autumn Grady got the start and went five innings with a no-decision. Maci Brown came in for the Panthers in the final two innings, and logged the win for KWC. Neither pitcher threw a strikeout in the contest.

Kentucky Wesleyan will be back in action on Tuesday, as they travel to face Trevecca for a doubleheader. Game one will begin at 4 p.m. CT.
