Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team won their first round game against Ursuline on Thursday morning 5-1 in the G-MAC Championship. However, the Panthers were shutout in the second round to Cedarville 2-0. KWC is now 24-22 on the season.

First round vs. Ursuline

Kentucky Wesleyan came away with a 5-1 victory against Ursuline in the first round of the G-MAC tournament in Xenia, Ohio, on Thursday morning. The Panthers won the first and only meeting so far between both squads, and will advance to the second round of the tournament, where they would face Cedarville in the second round.

KWC got its offense going early, and in the bottom half of the second, Delaney Mixer connected on a double down the left field line, scoring Shelby Tennant to put the Panthers up 1-0 in the bottom of the second.

Ursuline hit back-to-back singles, and were threatening to score in the top of the third. The Panthers defense turned a double play to end the inning, after the Arrows had runners on second and third.

In the bottom of the third, the Panthers scored another run. Courtney Lockwood smacked a homerun over the left field wall to give KWC the 2-0 advantage.
Ursuline had another opportunity to score with runners on the corners in the top of the fifth, but came up empty as Maci Brown and the Panthers' defense continued to control the tone and pace of the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, Kentucky Wesleyan added on to their 2-0 lead. Kaci Ovelgoenner ripped a double down the line, and then Samantha Marksbury knocked a double opposite field, which scored Ovelgoenner and put the Panthers up 3-0.

Kayla Norris drew a walk, and Samantha Marksbury advanced to third base. Mixer grounded out to short, but scored Marksbury as KWC went up 4-0. Alexis Chapman reached base on an error, and Kayla Norris crossed home for the 5-0 lead.

The Arrows scored one run in the top of the seventh off a solo homerun.

Maci Brown threw her ninth complete game of the year, and struck out four. She gave up just five hits in the contest.

The Panthers as a team totaled six hits, and recorded three doubles. Delaney Mixer led the KWC offense with two RBI's.

Second round vs. Cedarville

The Panthers took three out of four from the Yellow Jackets in the regular season, but struggled to find consistent offense throughout the afternoon.

Cedarville struck first with one run in the top of the first, and while the Panthers had multiple chances to score runs, they came up empty.

KWC finished with just seven hits in the second game, and stranded eight runners on base throughout the game.

The Panthers loaded the bases up in the top of the sixth inning, but were unable to produce any runs.

Meredith Daunhauer and Shelby Tennant each collected two hits apiece in the contest. Courtney Lockwood finished with a double in the game.

Casey Smith pitched the entire game, and struck out four. Despite the loss, Smith now has thrown 10 complete games this year.

Kentucky Wesleyan will play again tomorrow afternoon in the loser's bracket, where they will have a re-match with Ursuline. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT.
