Baseball improves to 16-2 in G-MAC play, sweeps doubleheader against Cedarville

Kentucky Wesleyan swept Cedarville on Thursday afternoon at Panther Park in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. Kentucky Wesleyan won the first game 7-6, and also won game two 10-6. The Panthers improve to (31-12, 16-2 G-MAC) on the season. KWC has also now won at least 30 games in the past three consecutive seasons.

Game one

Kentucky Wesleyan trailed the entire game, until they rallied and won in the bottom of the ninth off a walk-off double from Troy Paris.

Cedarville scored one run in the top of first, and then added another run on an infield single in the top of the third.

Tory Paris hit a single in the bottom of the third to score a run, and cut the lead down to 2-1. The Panthers had the bases loaded, but were unable to bring in anymore runs.

The Yellow Jackets collected three runs on four hits in the top of the fourth to open up their lead all the way to 5-1. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, Jacob Snodgrass connected on a three-run triple to get back within a run at 5-4.

Cedarville extended the lead again in the top of the sixth, but the Panthers would yet again cut the deficit down to just one run. Seth Campbell hit a single down the right field line, which scored Nathan Stemle to make it 6-5.

In the bottom of the eighth, Tyler Shewmaker ripped a triple to the right field wall. Stemle then singled up the middle to tie the game up at 6-6.
KWC held Cedarville scoreless in the ninth, and then went to bat to win the game. Jeremy Cline got on base off a walk. Kiah Gledhill then came in for Cline to pinch run.

Troy Paris was the next batter, and he smacked the game-winning RBI double into the gap between left and center field to score Gledhill and complete the comeback.
Paris and Snodgrass combined for five RBI's in the game.

Zach Burton started the game on the mound, but ended with a no-decision. Burton pitched four innings, and gave up three earned runs.

Evan Mohr, Spencer Otto, and Ryan Bailey pitched the remainder of the game. Bailey recorded the win, which makes him now 2-0 on the year.

Game two

After giving up a run to the Yellow Jackets in the first, the Panthers reclaimed the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second.

Nathan Stemle's single down the right field line gave the Panthers the lead at 2-1. With runners on the corners, Seth Campbell collected an RBI single to score Andrew Kirkland for the third run of the inning.

Jacob Snodgrass smacked an RBI double in the bottom of the third, scoring Troy Paris who singled earlier in the inning. Adam Brown then hit an RBI single through the left side of the field, and KWC took a 5-1 lead.

Paris hit a double to the centerfield wall, and brought home Cody Bridges in the bottom of the fourth as the Panthers extended the lead out to 6-1. Snodgrass then hit an RBI single to score Paris from second to make it 7-1 KWC.

Kentucky Wesleyan scored four runs in the inning and led 9-1 heading into the fifth. The Panthers led 10-3 late in the game, and Cedarville made things interesting after closing in on the score at 10-6 with runners on the corners, but the Panthers held off the late charge from the Yellow Jackets.

Mitchell Jones pitched 5.1 innings and recorded the win. Logan Mallory came in as a relief pitcher for the final sequence of the game.

Kentucky Wesleyan will play Cedarville tomorrow for the final two games of the series. Friday has been tabbed Senior Day at Panther Park.
