Baseball takes three out of four at Alderson Broaddus

Kentucky Wesleyan split a doubleheader on the road at Alderson Broaddus on Sunday afternoon in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Panthers won their third straight game of the series with a 4-2 victory, but fell in game two 14-6.

Kentucky Wesleyan is now (29-12, 14-2 G-MAC) this season.

Game one

Nathan Stemle got the first RBI of the game on a single through the left side of the field, which scored Andrew Kirkland. Cody Bridges then hit an RBI single up the middle scoring Tyler Walsh for the 2-0 lead.

AB would cut the lead down in the bottom of the second off a solo homerun. The Battlers tied the game up at 2-2 after scoring another run in the bottom of the fourth.

Andrew Kirkland's single in the top of the fifth gave the Panthers the lead back. Jacob Snodgrass scored on the RBI. Stemle scored in the bottom of the sixth off an error to give Kentucky Wesleyan the 4-2 lead. The Panthers held AB scoreless for the rest of the contest.

Austin Tibbs recorded the win in game one on the mound. Tibbs got the start, and went six innings striking out four batters. Ryan Hundley registered his third save of the season after coming in to pitch in the final inning of play.

Nathan Stemle and Cody Bridges both produced two hits and an RBI each in the contest.
 
Game two
Kentucky Wesleyan was looking for the series sweep on the road, but the Battlers' bats exploded in the second game.

Alderson Broaddus jumped out to a fast 5-0 lead after three innings of play, and had control of the game.

The Panthers had a huge fourth inning though, and scored five runs to tie the game up. Tyler Shewmaker brought in the first run on an RBI single, Tyler Walsh scored the second run on an error, and then Nathan Stemle connected on a two-run RBI single to cut the lead down to one. Cody Bridges singled up the middle scoring Tyler Walsh, which tied the game up.

AB would respond with one run in the bottom of the fifth to hold a 6-5 lead. Their lead then expanded out to six, after scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh to lead 12-5.

In the eighth, Tyler Walsh hit an RBI double down the left field line to score the final run of the game for the Panthers.

Bridges, Jacb Snodgrass, and Tyler Shewmaker each came away with two hits in the game. Stemle recorded a team-high two RBI's.

Nate Verst started the second game for the Panthers. He was given a no-decision after leaving the game through 2.2 innings of work.

Andrew Moralez then came in and pitched for four full innings. Despite receiving the loss, Moralez struck out seven. Aaron Hendrickson and Ryan Bailey both pitched later on in the game to close.

The Panthers will be back at home next weekend for a four game series with Cedarville.
