The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team cruised for two victories at home on Saturday afternoon against Salem International in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Panthers won game won easily, 15-4 (F/5), and shutout the Tigers in game two 4-0.
Kentucky Wesleyan improves its record on the season to (22-20, 15-5 G-MAC). The Panthers have also now won eight consecutive games.
Game one
KWC's offense got rolling early at Foster Field. After trailing 2-0, the Panthers quickly re-gained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first.
Kentucky Wesleyan then exploded for seven runs in the bottom half of the second to open the lead at 10-2.
The Panthers still remained hot from the plate, and scored five more runs in the bottom of the fourth leading 15-4. Kentucky Wesleyan totaled 16 hits throughout the game.
Mackenzie Weedman and
Meredith Daunhauer both finished the contest with a 4-4 performance from the plate. They both also scored three runs in the game. Weedman recorded three RBI's too.
Courtney Lockwood posted 6 RBI's, after going 2-4. Lockwood collected a three-run homerun, and a double in the game.
Lockwood finished with two hits, along with
Kaci Ovelgoenner, and
Alexis Chapman.
Samantha Marksbury registered two RBI's.
Casey Smith won her ninth game of the season from the mound this year. Smith went four innings, and struck out two.
Jessica Carmon pitched the final inning of the game, and she struck out one batter.

Game two
There wasn't quite as much offense in the second game for the Panthers, but it didn't matter, because
Maci Brown dominated from the mound all game long, and kept Salem International's offense in check.
Brown threw a complete game shutout, and posted 10 strikeouts in the contest. She only gave up two hits in the game too. Brown has now won 10 games this season from the hill.
Kentucky Wesleyan's offense didn't get going until the bottom half of the fourth. The Panthers scored the first runs of the game, after
Shelby Tennant crushed a three-run RBI double to give the Panthers the 3-0 advantage.
Kentucky Wesleyan added one more run of insurance in the bottom of the fifth, off an
Alexis Chapman solo homerun. The homerun marks Chapman's third homerun this season.
The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow morning against Salem International. The first pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tomorrow's games have been tabbed as Senior Day.
