Baseball moves to 13-1 in conference play after doubleheader sweep at Alderson Broaddus

Kentucky Wesleyan came away with two critical wins on the road against Alderson Broaddus in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers won the first game 8-3, and then took the second game 5-3. Kentucky Wesleyan has now won sixth straight games, and improve their record this season now to (28-11, 13-1 G-MAC). The Panthers are currently sitting in first place in the conference standings.

Game one

The Panthers scored two runs in the top of the second to take the lead 2-0. Tyler Walsh hit a single up the middle scoring Adam Brown, and Cody Bridges singled to right center, scoring Walsh.

Kentucky Wesleyan led 3-2 after four innings of play, but would score five runs total in the seventh and eighth innings. The Panthers scored four in the eighth, and opened the lead up on the Battlers to 8-2.

Alderson Broaddus scored a run in the bottom of the ninth, but the Panthers were still well in control. AB stranded 10 runners in the game.

Troy Paris led the Panthers with a 3-5 performance from the plate. Paris also finished with one RBI.

Cody Bridges, Tyler Walsh, Tyler Shewmaker, and Adam Brown all finished with two hits each in the contest. Walsh and Brown both collected team-high two RBI's in the game.

Freshman Zach Burton has now won eight games from the mound this season, and his overall record improves to 8-2. Burton went seven innings, and gave up just one earned run in the contest.

Ryan Hundley pitched the final two innings, and struck out three.
 
Game two

The Panthers fell behind early after the first, but responded with three runs in the top of the third. Troy Paris connected on a double, which scored Cody Bridges, and then Jacob Snodgrass registered two RBI's off a single to right. Paris and Jeremy Cline would score the two runs.

After the Battlers cut the deficit down to 3-2 heading into the seventh, KWC added two more runs in the top of the inning to push the lead out to 5-2. Kentucky Wesleyan scored the first run of the inning off an error, and scored the second off a Cody Bridges single.

Cody Jackson, Cody Bridges, and Troy Paris each finished with two hits apiece in the game. Snodgrass posted a team-high two RBI's.

Mitchell Jones threw a complete game, and fanned four batters in the game. Jones improves to 2-1 on the season from the mound.

Kentucky Wesleyan will play the final two games in the series tomorrow afternoon. KWC eyes another series sweep, and is now two wins away from posting a 30-win season for three straight years.
