Softball drops two at home against Trevecca

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team lost two games at home in doubleheader action on Tuesday against Trevecca in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play at Foster Field. The Trojans won the first game by a score of 5-0, and took game two 5-1. The Panthers now fall to (14-20, 9-5 G-MAC) on the season.

The last four games KWC has played have all been against Trevecca, with the Trojans taking three out of four.

In game one, Kentucky Wesleyan struggled to produce anything offensively. Haley Fagan of Trevecca threw a complete game shutout, and gave up just three hits in the contest. She also struck out six Kentucky Wesleyan batters.

Shelby Tennant, Kaci Ovelgoenner, and Delaney Mixer each recorded one hit apiece for Kentucky Wesleyan.

The Panthers also stranded five runners on base in the game.

Trevecca scored one run in the top of the third, and then added two runs in both the third and fourth innings to maintain a comfortable cushion on the Panthers.

Maci Brown got the start on the mound for KWC, and went 3.2 innings. Brown gave up five earned runs, and struck out two.

Jessica Carmon pitched in relief for the final 3.1 innings.

In the second game, it was much of the same story. Fagan pitched again for Trevecca and threw lights out. Fagan went all seven innings again, and struck out five batters, while giving up four hits.

After trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Kentucky Wesleyan found an opportunity to get back into the game. Kaci Ovelgoenner's single in the inning put the Panthers on the board to cut the deficit. Kentucky Wesleyan had runners on second and third base to potentially tie the game or take the lead, but were unable to bring them home.

The Trojans would score two runs in the top half of the fifth to extend their lead out to 4-1, and KWC would not score the rest of the game.

Meredith Daunhauer, Courtney Lockwood, Kaci Ovelgoenner, and Alexis Chapman collected the four hits for Kentucky Wesleyan in game two.

Freshman Autumn Grady took the mound for the Panthers, and went all seven innings. Despite the loss, Grady gave up only four earned runs, and struck out six.

KWC will be back in action on Thursday at Oakland City for a doubleheader. The first game is set to begin at 3:30 CT.
