The Kentucky Wesleyan baseball team swept their doubleheader on Monday against Urbana at Panther Park. The Panthers won the first game by a score of 7-1, and the second by a score of 17-0. Kentucky Wesleyan improves their record to 9-6 on the season with both victories.
In the first game, the Panthers scored one run apiece in the first two innings of play. Cody Bridges scored on a wild pitch in the first, and Sean Campbell scored in the second off of a single from Bridges. KWC would do the rest of their damage in the bottom half of the fourth. Kentucky Wesleyan scored five runs in the inning. Cody Bridges hit a double in the gap to bring in two runs in the inning. Bridges recorded a team-high three hits, along with a team-high three RBI's. Bridges also scored two runs. Troy Paris brought in two RBI's.
Zach Burton threw a complete seven innings in the contest for Kentucky Wesleyan. Burton also struck out eight batters, and gave up just one earned run. Burton improves his record on the mound this season to 3-2.
In the second game, the Panthers built an early lead again. Jacob Snodgrass hit a solo homerun to put KWC up in the first. Kentucky Wesleyan added three more runs in the second to lead 4-0.
In the fourth and fifth innings, Kentucky Wesleyan would score a total of 13 runs. The Panthers scored six in the fourth, and seven in the fifth to blow the game open.
Once it was all said and done, Cody Bridges recorded two hits in the second game, along with two RBI's. Bridges finished the day going 5-8 at the plate. Jacob Snodgrass tallied two runs, along with three hits, and a solo homerun. Adam Brown brought in three RBI's on two hits. Jeremy Cline posted a team-high three hits in the game. Zach Allen collected two hits, with three RBI's and three runs scored. Andrew Kirkland also contributed with a three run homerun. Chris Carr also registered two RBI's. Altogether, KWC finished with 15 hits in the game.
Sammy Holder threw six innings, and struck out five batters. Holder picks up his second win of the year. Logan Mallory came in for the final inning, and struck out two.
Kentucky Wesleyan will be back in action on March 19th when they travel to play at the Midwest Regional Crossover.
