The Kentucky Wesleyan baseball team won both games at home against Ohio Valley on Saturday afternoon in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Panthers improve their overall record on the season to (12-10, 3-1 G-MAC). The Panthers won the first contest by a score of 19-8, and also won the second game 5-3. Kentucky Wesleyan also took three out of four games from the Fighting Scots this weekend in the series.

Kentucky Wesleyan used two innings in the first game where they piled in 17 of their 19 runs scored. The Panthers scored seven runs in the first, and later added 10 runs in the fourth, as they once lead 19-0 in the contest.

Andrew Kirkland tallied five hits in the first game, and also accounted for four RBI's. Kirkland also crossed the plate three times to score. Nathan Stemle picked up two hits and two RBI's in the game. Stemle also scored three runs. Troy Paris also knocked in three RBI's, while Adam Brown recorded three RBI's as well. Seth Campbell and Jacob Snodgrass each posted two hits, two RBI's, and two runs scored a piece. Tyler Shewmaker joined the hit parade with two RBI's too.

Kentucky Wesleyan as a team collected 20 hits throughout the game.

Pitcher Zach Burton improved his overall record on the mound to 4-2 this season. Burton lasted five innings, in which he struck out four. Billy McCoy and Matt Lasley pitched in relief for the Panthers.

 

The second game was much tougher for KWC. The game was scoreless through the first five innings of play, but Ohio Valley took the lead in the top of the sixth at 1-0.

Kentucky Wesleyan found themselves in a tight situation in the bottom of the seventh. The Panthers had two outs, but had one runner on base with Troy Paris at the plate. Paris would later drill a two run homerun to give KWC their first lead of the game at 2-1. The Panthers also added on to their lead in the inning with another run.

KWC also scored two runs in the eighth inning to hold a 5-1 advantage heading into the ninth.

In the ninth, Ohio Valley loaded up the bases quickly, and brought in two runs to close the gap at 5-3. Ryan Hundley was able to come up with the final two outs, as he picked up the final out of the game on a strikeout.

Adam Brown and Andrew Kirkland each produced two hits in the contest. Troy Paris had a team-high three RBI's.

Evan Mohr got the start on the mound in the second game, and went seven full innings with four strikeouts. Mohr is now 3-0 this season. Mitchell Jones also came into relief pitch in the game in the eighth inning.

The Panthers will next play Salem International at Panther Park for a doubleheader on both Friday and Saturday.
