Box Score 2 The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team bounced back nicely after a tough game one loss to Cedarville, and responded with an 8-0 win on Friday afternoon in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play at Foster Field. The Panthers fell in game one by a score of 6-4 in a game that went nine innings. After the doubleheader split, KWC is now (7-17, 2-2 G-MAC) on the season.
Kentucky Wesleyan fell behind 4-2 in the first game heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Kaci Ovelgoenner hit a two run homerun to tie the game up at four apiece. The game continued into the ninth inning, but Cedarville would score two runs in the top half of the ninth.
Casey Smith threw all nine innings from the mound for Kentucky Wesleyan. She struck out five hitters in the contest.
Delaney Mixer recorded two hits and two RBI's for the Panthers in the first game.
In the second game, Kentucky Wesleyan set the tone early both on offense and defense. The Panthers huge fourth inning put the game out of reach for Cedarville, as KWC dropped seven runs in the inning.
Meredith Daunhauer scored two runs and also produced two hits in the second game. Mackenzie Weedman brought in three RBI's later in the inning as the Panthers began to open the gap. Kentucky Wesleyan also drew several walks throughout the inning, as KWC batted through 14 hitters in the inning alone.
Pitcher Maci Brown threw her first career KWC no-hitter on Friday evening. Brown threw all five innings, and struck out five batters. Brown and the Panthers defense dominated the game from start to finish.
Kentucky Wesleyan will play another doubleheader against Cedarville beginning on Saturday morning starting at 10 a.m. CT.
