Softball sweeps doubleheader at Brescia

The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team picked up two wins over Brescia on Tuesday evening at Kamuf Park. The Panthers won game one 5-3, and took game two by a score of 2-1. Kentucky Wesleyan improves its regular season record to (6-16). The Panthers have now won three straight games.

In game one, Kentucky Wesleyan scored all five of their runs in the second inning. Meredith Daunhauer's single would load the bases for KWC. Delaney Mixer and Kaci Ovelgoenner each registered two RBI's in the inning. Mixer collected a single, while Ovelgoenner hit a double. Daunhauer would record two hits in the first contest for the Panthers.

Brescia would rally late in the game, and would cut into the Panthers' lead, but Kentucky Wesleyan was able to hold on for the victory. Casey Smith and Jessica Carmon pitched in game one for the Panthers. KWC held the Bearcats to only six hits.

In game two, there was much less scoring, but the Panthers' defense shutdown Brescia. Delaney Mixer knocked in a RBI double, and Jessica Carmon would bring in the second run later in the game on an RBI single. Mixer and Jessica Carmon each picked up two hits apiece. Both of Carmon's hits in game two were doubles. Kentucky Wesleyan as a team slotted eight hits in the game.

Pitcher Maci Brown came away with the win in the second game for the Panthers. She threw six strikeouts in the game.

KWC will be back in action on Friday, when they host G-MAC opponent Ohio Valley for a doubleheader. The first game will begin at 3 p.m.
