Box Score 2 The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team (0-2) lost their first two games of the 2016 season at Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers fell in game one by a score of 9-0, and dropped game two 5-1.
In the first game, Bellarmine did all of their damage in the bottom of the second. The Knights scored eight runs in the inning and had Kentucky Wesleyan reeling early. The Panthers were able to only generate four hits in the game, and it was eventually called after five innings of play due to the eight-run rule.
Casey Smith and
Autumn Grady pitched for KWC in the first game. Grady threw three strikeouts in 2.2 innings worked.
In game two, Bellarmine got started on offense again in the early stages of the game. The Knights scored three runs in the bottom of the first, as KWC had trouble consistently getting hits in the game.
Delaney Mixer scored the Panthers' lone run of the doubleheader in the top half of the sixth inning, off a single from
Samantha Marksbury.
Meredith Daunhauer,
Courtney Lockwood, and Marksbury each collected two hits apiece throughout the duration of both games.
Maci Brown pitched four innings for Kentucky Wesleyan, and struck out five batters.
Jessica Carmon pitched the next two innings in relief, and struck out two. KWC left 16 runners stranded on base in both games combined.
The Panthers will be back in action in two weeks on Feb. 20th, as they travel to St. Louis to play Maryville for a doubleheader.
