Women’s basketball gets set to square off with top two G-MAC teams

Game Notes

The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team will take on the top two G-MAC opponents in Cedarville and Ursuline on Thursday and Saturday at the Sportscenter.

The Panthers lost their first meeting to Cedarville 67-55, but defeated Ursuline 76-75 on a game winning shot at the buzzer from Brittany Wells back in January. Kentucky Wesleyan enters Thursday with an (11-6, 5-2 G-MAC) record. The Panthers are 7-1 at home this year, and have won their past two games.

Co-Head Coach Nicole Nieman discussed the past two wins from last week. "It was good to be home. We hadn't played a home game in several weeks, so it was great to play in front of our own fans. We really felt that our kids played hard, and got a lot better as a unit last week."

Cedarville is in first place in the G-MAC with a perfect 7-0 record. The Yellow Jackets are altogether 16-5, and have won their past nine games. Cedarville has three players who are scoring in double figures. The Yellow Jackets offense is producing 74 points each contest, and they are allowing opponents to only score 58 each game.

"This is a big week for us. We're excited about it, and we know that we are going to be challenged. Cedarville is going to be a tough matchup. They have a lot of size, and we are just going to have to get after it down low and will need to fight and claw to try and matchup with them" Nieman said.

Ursuline is currently sitting with a record of (16-3, 5-2 G-MAC). The Arrows have won their past three contests, and are tied with KWC at second in the conference. Ursuline has five players who are averaging double figures. All five players are at least scoring 12 points per game. The Arrows are scoring 84 points each game, and are holding opponents to 62.

Nieman also previewed the matchup with Ursuline, a team who they narrowly beat the first time around. "Ursuline is just playing really well right now. They play hard, and they have a lot of confidence as a team. They are a good, disciplined team. These games will give us a chance to see how we've grown and developed as a team since the first time we played."

Brittany Wells and Jennifer Walker-Crawford are the only Panther players averaging double figures. Wells is scoring 12.6 ppg, and Walker-Crawford is scoring 12 ppg. Walker-Crawford also leads KWC in rebounding, with 6.2 each game. Kentucky Wesleyan is scoring 66 points each game as a team. KWC connected on 11 three point field goals in their last game against Ohio Valley, which tied their previous season-high.
