Women’s basketball cruises past Alderson Broaddus 69-44 on Senior Day

The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team easily defeated Alderson Broaddus 69-44 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon at the Sportscenter. Kentucky Wesleyan dominated the game from start to finish, as they never let Alderson Broaddus find their rhythm on offense. The Panthers bounced back with a win in their final home game of the season, after dropping a conference contest against Davis & Elkins earlier in the week. With the win, the Panthers improve to (15-8, 8-4 G-MAC) on the season. Kentucky Wesleyan ends the season at home with a record of 10-3.

The Panthers got off to a fast start on offense right from the opening tip. Kentucky Wesleyan did an outstanding job of attacking the basket for easy points inside the paint. The Panthers were able to extend their lead all the way to 13 at 20-7. Brittany Wells and Bria Wright each knocked down a three from long range in the quarter.

Kentucky Wesleyan continued to dominate the game in the second quarter, as the Panthers jumped out to a quick 25-9 lead after Erin Dorn connected on a corner three. The Panthers were able to maintain a balanced attack on offense, and held a comfortable lead at halftime, as they led 36-17. Brittany Wells scored 10 points in the first half, and Bria Wright posted 10 rebounds.

 The Panthers continued to stay hot on offense, as they used an 11-4 run to start the third quarter, which extended the lead all the way to 47-21. Kentucky Wesleyan's defense continued to shut down Alderson Broaddus' offense, and the Battlers struggled to find ways to score. The game was well in hand in the fourth quarter, and KWC's large lead was never in doubt. The Panthers largest lead of the contest was 31, when the lead was 66-35.

Three Panthers finished in double figures scoring, as Brittany Wells led the way with 12 points on 5-9 shooting from the floor. Katie Miller and Jill Jones each also added 11 points, and Jones dished out a team-high five assists. Bria Wright brought in a team-high 13 rebounds, and also scored nine points. Erin Dorn also chipped in with seven points and five rebounds. Addie Reimbold also recorded six rebounds in the contest. Eleven Panthers scored throughout the game.

As a team, Kentucky Wesleyan shot 45% from the field. The Panthers also drilled seven three's throughout the game, and shot 50% from long range. KWC also out-rebounded the Battlers 43-30.

KWC will be back in action next Thursday on the road against Ohio Valley in West Virginia. Tip-off is set for 4:30 p.m. CT.
