The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team will host both G-MAC opponents Davis & Elkins and Alderson Broaddus on Thursday and Saturday. Thursday's game will begin at 5:30 p.m., and Saturday's will start at 1 p.m. Saturday's game has been tabbed for Senior Day. The Panthers have won their past two games, and are sitting at (14-7, 7-3 G-MAC) on the season. KWC is 9-2 this season for home matchups at the Sportscenter. The Panthers defeated both teams in the first meetings in West Virginia.
Head Coach Caleb Nieman gave his thoughts on last week's wins over Oakland City and Trevecca. "We had a really good week of practice last week. In the Oakland City game, we had a lot people contribute. It was a good road win in the sense of everyone brining a lot of energy and enthusiasm and playing hard for the entire game. We've had stretches where we have held teams scoreless for periods of five or six minutes, but we hadn't really seen that throughout an entire game, and I thought that we played a full game of tough defense against Trevecca, which is really important at this stage into the season."
Davis & Elkins is (10-12, 6-4 G-MAC) this year. The Senators are currently in fourth place in the conference standings. Coach Nieman broke down the game plan for D&E. "Davis & Elkins shares a lot of traits similar to us. Stephanie Wooten their leading scorer leads the entire conference in scoring with nearly 20 points each game. We know that she will make a lot of shots, so we will have to know where she is always at, and try and contest each and every shot. Davis & Elkins is also one of the better offensive rebounding teams in the conference. A big focus the past couple of weeks for us has been improving our rebounding."
Brittany Wells and Jennifer-Walker Crawford lead KWC in scoring with 12.3 ppg, and 11.5 ppg. Walker-Crawford also leads the Panthers in rebounding with 6.1 per game. Bria Wright recorded 12 rebounds in the last contest on Friday against Trevecca. Jill Jones leads the Panthers in assists with 2.2 each game.
Alderson Broaddus is in fifth place in the G-MAC standings. The Battlers are 8-16 this season. Nieman also spoke on Alderson Broaddus: "Alderson Broaddus really shoots the three well. We got to get out and contest those three's and make it difficult on them. They are another potent team on offense, so we will have to play well defensively."
Nieman also discussed the four seniors who will be playing their final home game on Saturday. "Ciera Woods, Jill Jones, Jade Mills-Harris, and Katie Miller are our four seniors this year. They've just been great ambassadors for our program. They've also been great student-athletes. We're really going to miss them next season. They all offer a different strengths to the team, but they are all very important."
