Women's basketball fights off Lane, 66-61

Kentucky Wesleyan held on to defeat Lane 66-61 on Wednesday evening at the Sportscenter in non-conference play. The Panthers improve their overall record on the season to 4-1, and have now won four consecutive games.

How it happened
Lane led the Panthers 16-13 after the first quarter of action. The Dragons started the second quarter on an 8-0 run and led 24-15 early in the second.
The Panthers struggled offensively and trailed 31-25 at the break.

In the second half, KWC slowly chipped away on the Dragons' advantage. Lane remained out in front throughout the quarter, but Shayla Wright drilled a three to give the Panthers a 47-46 lead heading into the fourth.

Kentucky Wesleyan spurted a 14-5 run to lead 61-52. Walker-Crawford and Morabito hit back-to-back three's, while Walker-Crawford added another basket on a layup.

Lane made one final push, but Wells' three-ball sealed the deal, as KWC led 64-58 with one minute to play.

Inside the box score
Brittany Wells collected a game-high 21 points on 7-11 shooting from the field. Shayla Wright scored 10 points and dished out three assists, while Addie Reimbold scored six points and brought in a team-high and season-high 10 rebounds.

Jennifer Walker-Crawford nearly came away with her second consecutive double-double, finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Bria Wright posted five assists and seven rebounds, and Sydney Morabito tallied five points, four assists, and a team-high two steals.

The Panthers out-scored Lane in both the third and fourth quarters. KWC shot 40 percent from the field and knocked down six three-point field goals.

Kentucky Wesleyan also finished 18-24 from the free-throw line.

KWC will return to action on Saturday afternoon at the Sportscenter against Oakland City.
