Kentucky Wesleyan will play its final home game of the 2016 season on Saturday afternoon at Steele Stadium a 1 p.m. The Panthers will take on the Malone Pioneers, who recently joined the G-MAC this season. The final two games for KWC this year will be G-MAC opponents in Malone and Alderson Broaddus.
The Panthers recorded their second win of the year and rolled past Alfred State last Saturday, 52-7. Three KWC players were named G-MAC Athlete Of The Week for their stellar performances in the game. Quarterback Mike McGee threw for a career-high 277 yards and five touchdowns in the win. Defensive back Travell Brown won Defensive Player Of The Week, after intercepting two passes, registering four tackles, and blocking one field goal. Cole Woodburn was named Special Teams Player Of The Week after connecting on all seven PAT's and a 33-yard field goal.
Running back Josiah Israel ran for a career-high 237 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receivers Keelan Cole and Travion Tucker both had big weekends last week too. Cole brought in 141 receiving yards and two scores.
KWC has 21 seniors on its roster, and will honor them at the game tomorrow.
Malone enters Saturday with a 3-6 record. The Pioneers defeated University of God's Chosen 35-3 last weekend. Malone averages 18.4 points per contest, and on average gives up 35.6 points defensively. However, the Pioneers rank in the top-10 for fewest committed penalties, and penalty yards. The Pioneers record around 330 yards of total offense each game.
