Kentucky Wesleyan fell 109-71 in their first exhibition game of the 2016 season on Thursday evening at the KFC Yum! Center. The Panthers fell in a quick hole early right from the start at 15-3 and were unable to recover. Louisville came out and used their size early on to their advantage with easy points inside the paint. The Cards also were hitting their outside shots, and in the first six minutes of play, held a 22-8 lead on the Panthers. The Cards finished with 50 points inside the paint when it was all said and done.
Kentucky Wesleyan struggled in the first half matching the Cards' tempo and pace, putting them at a large deficit heading into halftime at 51-31.
Kentucky Wesleyan started the second half off out-scoring Louisville 13-11 to trim down on the Cardinals' lead to 59-44. That 15-point margin would be as close as the Panthers could get on Thursday evening. The Cardinals scored 58 points in the second half, to the 40 points scored by Kentucky Wesleyan.
Jordan Jacks led the way for KWC with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Ken-Jah Bosley scored a team-high 14 points, while Sam Williams added 12, and Brandon Hatton collected 11 points. Shaakir Lindsey dished out a team-high five assists. Lindsey also scored six points on the night.
As a team, Kentucky Wesleyan shot 39 percent from the field. The Panthers committed 20 turnovers on the evening as well.
The Panthers will be back in action on Saturday evening in Bowling Green against Western Kentucky at Diddle Arena. Game time is set for 8 p.m. The Panthers fell last year at WKU, 75-68.
