Women’s basketball improves to 3-1 with 82-64 victory over Missouri Baptist

Kentucky Wesleyan defeated Missouri Baptist 82-64 on Saturday afternoon at the Owensboro Sportscenter in non-conference. Kentucky Wesleyan improves to 3-1 on the season with the victory, marking their third straight win.

How it happened
Brittany Wells scored nine points in the first quarter, as Kentucky Wesleyan controlled the pace and tempo of the game early on. The Panthers led 24-16 after the first quarter.

KWC's offense heated up in the second quarter. As a team, the Panthers shot over 70 percent in the quarter and had a 46-30 advantage as they scored 31 points in the quarter, a season-high so far this year.

Despite a slow third quarter from the Panthers, where they were out-scored 22-16, they contained their composure and refused to give up the lead. Missouri Baptist went on a 13-5 run to close the lead down to single digits.

In the final quarter, the Panthers left no doubt as they put the game away at the free throw line. KWC shot 8-9 from the stripe in the quarter.

Inside the box score
Brittany Wells led all scorers with 21 points on 10-15 shooting from the floor. Wells is now averaging 21.8 points per game to lead the Panthers' offense.

Jennifer Walker-Crawford controlled the boards on defense and produced the only double-double of the contest with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Walker-Crawford also dished out four assists.

Shayla Wright found her groove from beyond the arc, knocking down 4-6 three-point attempts totaling 12 points. Wright also led the Panthers with five assists.
Addie Reimbold finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Keelie Lamb recorded a season-high 13 points, and connected on 7-12 free throws. Freshman Kelsey Ivers tallied six points on a perfect 3-3 shooting from the floor.
The Panthers out-rebounded MBU 34-26 and forced 22 turnovers. KWC also shot above 70 percent from the field in the second and fourth quarters.

Kentucky Wesleyan scored 38 points inside the paint, with 19 points off turnovers. Along with their stellar performance on defense, KWC posted seven made three pointers on the day.

Next up
Kentucky Wesleyan will return to the Sportscenter on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. against Lane. The Panthers defeated Lane 69-45 last season.
