Alderson Broaddus defeated Kentucky Wesleyan 31-28 on Saturday afternoon in the final game of the Panthers' 2016 season in Philippi, W.Va. Saturday's meeting was the second Founder's Cup game, and was also tabbed as the G-MAC football conference title game. With the loss, the Panthers end the season with a final record of 3-8.
Quarterback Mike McGee threw for 298 yards and three touchdowns. He finished the contest 22-40. Keelan Cole collected 130 receiving yards and a touchdown in his final game as a Panther. Travion Tucker recorded two touchdown receptions.
Vasco Billberry tacked on 15 tackles with eight solo and seven assisted. Colton Billups registered a touchdown interception return. Billberry and Michael Malone each finished the game with a sack apiece.
Kentucky Wesleyan scored a touchdown on their first drive, going six plays for 64 yards. Mike McGee threw his first touchdown pass of the afternoon to Travion Tucker from seven yards out to put the Panthers ahead 7-0.
KWC would put together another impressive drive later on in the quarter. This time the Panthers drove 71 yards. McGee tossed his second touchdown pass again to Tucker from six yards out for a 14-0 advantage.
Alderson Broaddus would score on back-to-back drives to even up the game at 14-14. Late in the second, the Battlers had possession, but Colton Billups recorded his fourth interception of the season. Billups took the interception all the way back to the end zone to put KWC back out in front at 21-14.
McGee collected his third touchdown pass after connecting to Keelan Cole with four seconds left before the break. The Panthers were in control 28-14 at halftime.
In the second half, AB drove 60 yards to cut the gap down to one possession at 28-21.
Kentucky Wesleyan led 28-21 heading into the final quarter of play. The Panthers' defense made a critical fourth down stop to end the Battlers' drive deep into KWC territory.
Alderson Broaddus evened the score up at 28-28 after driving 87 yards with under seven minutes to play.
Late in the fourth, McGee was picked off by Alderson Broaddus' Michael James who returned it 52 yards down to the KWC 13-yard line. The Panthers' defense held their own again in a tough spot, but the Battlers knocked down a 42-yard field goal with 1:15 left to re-take the lead 31-28.
On the final drive, Kentucky Wesleyan turned the ball over on downs. McGee was sacked on fourth down to end the game.
