Brittany Wells scores career-high 29 points in overtime loss against Drury

Kentucky Wesleyan (0-1) fell in overtime in the Panthers' season opener against Drury, 75-72 in Nashville on Friday evening. Brittany Wells carried the Panthers all night offensively, after producing a career-high 29 points in the loss. Wells finished the night 10-18 from the floor, including 3-7 from three-point range. The Panthers as a team finished the game shooting 38 percent from the field.

Shayla Wright also finished the night in double figures, with 10 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Bria Wright led the Panthers with 12 rebounds. Jennifer Walker-Crawford tallied six points and seven rebounds. Erin Dorn chipped in with eight, and Sydney Morabito collected four points and six rebounds.

KWC led 15-10 after the first quarter, and extended the lead out to 20-10 early in the second quarter. Brittany Wells was hitting everything from the floor and led all scorers with 11 points.

Wells nailed a three point shots moments later to increase Kentucky Wesleyan's lead out to 25-13. The Panthers' defense held Drury to just 20 percent shooting in the opening stages of the contest.

Drury would go on a 9-0 run to reduce the gap to 27-24 late in the second quarter. Sydney Morabito's jump shot with ten seconds left in the half gave KWC a 32-29 lead at halftime.

Drury took their first lead of the game after a 6-2 run to open the third quarter at 35-34. The Panthers trailed by one midway through the quarter 43-42.

In the fourth quarter of play, Drury stayed out in front of the Panthers with three minutes to play. KWC cut the lead down to two at 62-60 with 34 seconds to play. After a Drury turnover, the Panthers had the ball with eleven seconds to play. Bria Wright tied the game with eight seconds to go after connecting on a lay-up.

Once the overtime began, Drury jumped out to a 71-64 advantage. The Panthers cut the lead down to a one-possession game after Addie Reimbold drilled two free throws with 39 seconds left.

The Panthers' defense forced another turnover with 12 seconds to play, and had an opportunity to send the game into double overtime with a made three-point field goal. Brittany Wells, who had the hot hand all night, missed the game-tying three.

KWC will play again in Nashville tomorrow against UMSL. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
