Women’s basketball opens up season Friday in Nashville at Pops Duncan Classic

Kentucky Wesleyan will take on Drury and UMSL in the Pops Duncan Classic in Nashville, Tenn. on the campus of Trevecca on Friday and Saturday. The Panthers face Drury on Friday at 5:00, and will face UMSL on Saturday evening at 5:30.

KWC opened up last season at the Pops Duncan Classic. The Panthers defeated Ferris State, but fell to Findlay.

Last season, Drury finished the year 26-5, and advanced all the way to the Midwest Regional Final. The Panthers are ranked fifth in the Midwest Regional poll currently.

Drury also won all three of their exhibition contests against Columbia College, Missouri Baptist, and the University of Illinois.

UMSL posted an 11-16 overall record last year. The Tritons and the Panthers played last season, and Kentucky Wesleyan came away with a 74-68 victory.

Kentucky Wesleyan has a stacked group of seniors returning who have all seen and played valuable minutes over the past few seasons.

The Panthers had two players scoring double figures last season. Brittany Wells led KWC with 12.5 points per game, and Jennifer Walker-Crawford also added 10.7 points each contest.

KWC also returns six other players who saw the floor last season, and signed five new freshmen.

In Kentucky Wesleyan's first exhibition game, Jennifer Walker-Crawford and Shayla Wright each finished the game in the double figures scoring column.

The Panthers gave Austin Peay a run for their money in their final exhibition contest on Tuesday in a 69-59 loss. The Panthers out-scored the Governors in the final three quarters of play. Erin Dorn scored 14 points for the Panthers, while Walker-Crawford and senior Sydney Morabito collected 10 points each.
