Kentucky Wesleyan lost in four sets at home on Saturday afternoon at Jones Gym against the University of the Cumberlands. The Panthers took the first set 27-25, but dropped the next three 25-14, 26-24, 25-13. With the loss, KWC slips to 7-10 on the season.

The Panthers as a team produced 15 kills in the first set, where both teams continue to go at it. The set was tied at 25-25 before Kentucky Wesleyan won the final two points. Autumn Harris registered a kill, and then the Panthers won the final point of the set off of an error.

Cumberlands came out in the second set, and built an early commanding lead. The Patriots led 11-4 in the on-going stages of the set, and built their lead to 23-13.

KWC had an opportunity to re-gain control of the match in the third set. The Panthers trailed 19-16, but re-took the lead at 24-23 after an error by the Patriots. Despite having a set point, KWC was unable to hold off Cumberlands, who won the last three points of the set.

UC carried their momentum of their third-set victory into the fourth set and had KWC reeling early. Kentucky Wesleyan trailed 15-6 before they tried to re-group with a timeout. The Patriots would continue to extend their advantage out to 23-10, before closing out the set and match.

Elizabeth Gober and Mallory Sacre each tallied a team-high 12 kills in the contest. Kylie Foster posted 40 assists, and Nicole Venema registered a team-high 21 digs. Foster also produced 15 digs, and Hannah Pierce added 11. Sierra Morrow recorded two solo blocks.

Kentucky Wesleyan will hit the road and travel to Ohio for two matches next week. Their first contest is on Tuesday at Tiffin. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. CT.
