Panthers rout Alfred State, 52-7

Kentucky Wesleyan won their second game of the season after dominating Alfred State 52-7  in Alfred, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Kentucky Wesleyan improves their overall record to 2-7. Kentucky Wesleyan posted 551 yards of total offense in the blowout victory. Mike McGee threw for 277 yards and tossed five touchdown passes, a career-high.

Travell Brown picked off two passes, and Jarron Thompson recorded the other interception for KWC. Jamir Johnson recorded a team-high six tackles along with his forced fumble. Kentucky Wesleyan registered six sacks on the day.

Josiah Israel ran for a career-high 237 yards on the ground with two touchdowns. Keelan Cole brought in five receptions for 141 yards and two scores. Travion Tucker also collected two touchdown passes with 52 yards receiving.

The Panthers' only offense in the first quarter was off of a Cole Woodburn 33-yard field goal. KWC added on to their lead in the second quarter. The Panthers marched quickly down the field in a 3-play 72-yard drive. Mike McGee hit Keelan Cole for a 70-yard touchdown score to put Kentucky Wesleyan ahead 10-0.

Later on in the quarter, McGee found Travion Tucker in the far right corner of the end zone on a six-play 80-yard drive. The Panthers were in control with a 17-0 lead going into the break.

In the second half, Jamir Johnson forced a fumble, which was recovered my Michael Malone and returned deep into ASC territory. McGee tossed his third touchdown pass of the day on the drive after connecting with Trey Waltermire on a 13-yard touchdown throw.

With under three minutes remaining in the third, McGee connected with Cole for the second time of the day on a 29-yard touchdown pass to put the Panthers ahead with a comfortable 31-0 advantage.

KWC would add another touchdown early into the fourth quarter, as McGee threw his fifth touchdown pass, and his second to Travion Tucker. McGee found Tucker again on a 20-yard touchdown pass to put the Panthers ahead 38-0.

The Panthers would score twice more time to extend the lead all the way out to 52-7. Josiah Israel ran it in on a 58-yard run, and 50-yard run. With the pair of touchdowns, Israel has now scored at least one touchdown in three out of the past four contests.

Kentucky Wesleyan's defense held ASC to 239 total yards in the game. The Panthers' D also forced four turnovers.

KWC will return to Owensboro next Saturday for their first G-MAC meeting with Malone. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Steele Stadium.
