Kentucky Wesleyan won their second straight match as they swept Ohio Valley on the road in Vienna, W.Va. in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Friday evening. The Panthers won the match (25-13, 25-15, 25-22). With the victory tonight, KWC improves to 10-12 on the year, and also improves its conference record to 4-4.
KWC controlled the tempo of the match early on in the opening set, and the Panthers led 10-7 in the opening stages. As the set continued, Kentucky Wesleyan held the lead the rest of the way for the entire set and cruised to a 25-13 set win.
In the second set, KWC was out in front the whole way, and rolled on to a 25-15 set win, and took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set was much tougher for the Panthers, as they trailed 7-3 right out of the gate. KWC regrouped and won five straight points to re-claim the advantage. Later on in the set, Ohio Valley was out in front 19-15, before the Panthers finished the set on a tear. With the match tied at 22-22, KWC won the final three points to finish off the match. Gabrielle Gallois gathered a service ace on the final point.
Mallory Sacre posted a team-high 11 kills in the victory. Jaylen McEwen and Gabrielle Gallois registered five kills, and Elizabeth Gober and Sierra Morrow notched four kills apiece. Gober also snatched nine digs.
Kylie Foster collected 18 assists, and Kaitlyn Groce added a season-high 10 assists in the win. Nicole Venema tallied 12 digs. Hannah Pierce produced nine digs, and Emily Yocom finished with eight. Kristina Canary and Sacre both tacked on two block assists.
Kentucky Wesleyan will play again on the road tomorrow at 11 a.m. CT against Cedarville in Ohio. The Yellow Jackets won the first meeting in straight sets.
